Be clever, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
